Kneel to Lead

Babylon was a golden cup in Yahweh's hand making the whole earth drunk. The nations drank her wine; therefore, the nations go mad. - Jeremiah 51:7

The rise and fall of the Babylonian empire is a great example of God's sovereign power. Jeremiah, God's prophet, foretold both the ascent and descent of this once powerful nation. In the end, Babylon was simply a tool by which God accomplished His divine purposes.

Could our nation experience a similar fate? Absolutely.

Can a government revive a nation? Absolutely not, though it might make conditions more favorable.

In some ways the "great experiment" seems to have gone awry and the principles upon which our nation once firmly stood are daily being deconstructed. For centuries, at least at the governmental level, we were a positive influence, but now it seems, no more. What have we become? What will we be? How must we change?

Whatever the answers, I am convinced that the Body of Christ must somehow lead. But to lead, we must first walk and to walk we must first kneel.

The men in the pew given to praying for the pastor are like poles which hold up the wires along which the electric current runs. They are not the power, neither are they the specific agents in making the Word of God more effective. But they hold up the wires upon which the divine power runs to the hearts of men. They make conditions favorable for the preaching of the Gospel. - E. M. Bounds
