Whether it is pleasant or unpleasant, we will obey the voice of Yahweh our God to whom we are sending you so that it may go well with us. - Jeremiah 42:6

Every Sunday morning, hundreds of millions of people who call themselves Christians will gather together for instruction from (presumably what will be) God's Word. Unfortunately, some will exit having heard something quite different.

Thankfully, many will exit those assemblies having heard a message from Scripture, stop to speak with the pastor, and make positive comments such as these, "Great sermon!" "Thanks. I really needed that." "That was so good. Can I get a copy for a friend?"

While it all sounds so sincere (and certainly some responses are), it seems that most who make such comments never seek to work out God's truth in their personal lives, thus remaining unchanged.

We all, too often, nod our heads in assent to God's truth, but never bow our hearts in obedience. When the residents of Jerusalem behaved in this manner, it was disastrous. Determine this day to never let it be true of you.

Obedience brings its own reward. - E. M. Bounds
