May All Kingdoms Know

Now, Yahweh our God, save us from his hand so that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that You are Yahweh -- You alone. - Isaiah 37:20

Why should God save us?

Hezekiah, king of Judah, faced an overwhelming enemy in the Assyrians. Outnumbered and outmatched, it was inevitable that the advancing horde would capture Jerusalem, and both sides knew it. However, rather than respond to their mocking threats, Hezekiah took his need of deliverance to the only One who could save his city.

Carefully note the basis of the king's prayerful request, for it was not Judean worthiness or comfort. It was not that the city might grow and prosper. Hezekiah asked God to save his people in order that the world might know His (God's, not the king's) glory.

Looking back on your own experience with Christ, why did He save you? Has His purpose really changed? May we all seek to live as if it has not. Through our testimony, may all the kingdoms of the earth know that our God is the only God.

Preach abroad. It is the cooping yourselves up in rooms that has dampened the work of God, which never was and never will be carried out to any purpose without going into the highways and hedges and compelling men and women to come in. - Jonathan Edwards
