Secure and Reconciled

The result of righteousness will be peace; the effect of righteousness will be quiet confidence forever. - Isaiah 32:17

I have sometimes thought that the Bible, when translated into another language besides English, gave a better understanding of the text than my English version. For example, the verse above (in French) reads, "Justice will give birth to peace, it will bring tranquility and security forever."

Wouldn't you agree that this seems to more properly bring out the force of the text?

While it is true that the result of righteousness will be peace, it was the justice of God that gave birth to this peace. God's just punishment for sin made peace possible. The finality of Christ's work on the Cross also ensures security with God forever. This security is more than a sentiment. The follower's security in Christ is a reality that is grounded in the historical fact of Calvary.

While peace and quiet confidence are emotional positives, security and reconciliation with God, while including those outcomes, certainly promise so much more!

Lovingkindness and truth have met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other. - Psalm 85:10
