True Prosperity

"But as for you, do you seek great things for yourself? Stop seeking! For I am about to bring disaster on every living creature" -- this is Yahweh's declaration -- "but I will grant you your life like the spoils of war wherever you go." - Jeremiah 45:5

Baruch was Jeremiah's scribe who was charged with the difficult task of not only accurately recording God's prophecies through the prophet, but also delivering God's Word to Judah's rebellious leaders. Even though he was only the messenger, Baruch must have felt his own life was in danger, or at least that any hopes of his own societal advancement faded before his eyes with every pronouncement.

Baruch's experience reminds us that obedience to God must supersede our own desires for earthly advancement, but that obedience also guarantees us divine protection from eternal punishment. Baruch was only promised one thing, safe passage, and so are we, right into the halls of heaven itself.

Now, that is true prosperity.

I have to learn that the aim in life is God's, not mine. - Oswald Chambers
