A True Threat

But by the same word the present heavens and earth are held in store for fire, being kept until the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men. - 2 Peter 3:7

Okay, let me just go ahead and make one thing very clear. I hate spiders. I am not "jump up in a chair and scream like a little girl" afraid of them, but I don't like them, intensely. A friend once told me that he would grab a snake by the tail and beat a spider to death if he saw one. Well, so would I.
Once upon a time in the African bush, my loving wife sat idly by as (unbeknownst to me) she watched a crab-sized spider run under my chair. If I had seen it, then one (or both of us) would have died. She described the event to me later that day, in detail, saying, "Oh yeah, you should have seen the HUGE spider crawling under you at storying group today. It was so cool!"
What?!
The point is that while I was not aware that my life was in true, imminent danger and peril from an apparent "death by monstrous-spider attack," this world is in true, imminent peril of God's judgment, and most live their lives dangerously ignorant of its proximity. Small spiders are typically no real threat, but a Christless eternity certainly is for those who do not know Him.
It takes considerable knowledge just to realize the extent of your own ignorance. - Thomas Sowell
