But Grow

But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen. - 2 Peter 3:18

I first became a social, cyber-networker in 2008, just before we went overseas. From that moment to this one, Facebook has allowed me to keep up with family and friends all over the world. For someone who has lived in so many different places and ministered in so many different settings, it has mostly been beneficial (though some have certainly not used it in a positive, encouraging manner).

One particular benefit has been the ability to reconnect (or remain connected) with long-time friends. I am no longer shocked to discover that many are (unlike myself of course ;-), getting a little "long in tooth." In some cases, it may have been a few years since I saw them and they usually look a lot different (as does my image in the mirror). Their kids are grown, and with grand-kids, too! It is like living at a perpetual high school reunion.  Everyone is growing up or growing old, and yes, me too.

This caused me to wonder. What if spiritual growth were visible? Would others see a similar change in me? After all these years, 60 as a believer, am I still growing in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ? I should hope so, but if not, I must certainly ask myself why not? And if not, what must change for growth to continue until I reach my own end on earth?

Unless you try to do something beyond what you have mastered, you will never grow. - C. R. Lawton
