Dependent

Do not trust in nobles, in man, who cannot save. When his breath leaves him, he returns to the ground; on that day his plans die. - Psalm 146:3-4

Where, in whom, or in what have you put your trust?

Sometimes, it seems that people put their trust in their resources. Unfortunately, in many cases, culture has encouraged this trust (and dependence) and as a result destroyed or created a barrier to trust in God. Maybe this occurred because we (even as Christ-followers) have become so used to trusting in our own resources and abilities (rather than in the One who gives us the ability to accumulate them) that we think this is the answer for everyone.

Are we hoping in our own power more than the power of God? Are we transferring this self-sufficiency to the next generation? Perhaps, we need to keep some things to ourselves, including our God-dishonoring self-reliance. For what many people consider a strength, God sees as a weakness. Independence is a virtue, but only if we express it through dependence on the Lord.

When someone saves your life and gives you life, there's gratitude, humility; there's a time you've been so blessed you realize you've been given another chance at life that maybe you did or didn't deserve. - Pat Summerall
