Good Times Even in the Bad Times

The wicked wander everywhere, and what is worthless is exalted by the human race. - Psalm 12:8

Can things get much worse?

As the "faithful remnant" gathered on a recent Wednesday evening to pray, this seemed to be a common, shared concern. One octogenarian even offered that, in his opinion, moral degradation in the US had reached an all-time low. While this may certainly be true, sinfulness and immorality have been around for a long, long time, centuries in fact, around the world.

King David lamented such wickedness among God's very own possession (Israel) under his anointed reign. Our world, beginning with Adam's fateful choice in Eden, has always been under the curse of sin and it will not be any different until Christ returns to change it. We should even expect it to get worse before He appears.

Yet, this seemingly unavoidable slide is not an excuse for us to shut up or give up. It only means that until Christ returns we must be steadfast and live lives that are above despair, hand-wringing, and whining. After all, we know how all of this will turn out. The days of a "closeted" faith are over. People can see how bad it is getting. Now, let's show and tell them how good it can truly be with Christ Jesus.

It is impossible for that man to despair who remembers that his Helper is omnipotent. - Jeremy Taylor
