Must We Not Also Heed

For He is our God, and we are the people of His pasture, the sheep under His care. Today, if you hear His voice: Do not harden your hearts as at Meribah, as on that day at Massah in the wilderness where your fathers tested Me; they tried Me, though they had seen what I did. - Psalm 95:7-9

Have you ever paused to consider what a precious privilege it is to "hear God's voice?"

While there are many ways for God to speak (and we must be careful when placing limits where He has not), He speaks most often and most authoritatively through His written, inspired Word. Yet, billions of people around the world have not had the privilege of hearing that Word and billions more who have heard it remain deaf to it.

Tragic, yes?

How much more tragic for the professed believer to have heard, understood, and not heeded though blessed by the experience of His presence! Is it any wonder that God so sternly warns us not to harden our hearts? The consequences of such rebellion will not only devastate us personally, but it will often destroy everything and everyone we touch.

If we can hear, must we not also heed.

None so deaf as those that will not hear. - Matthew Henry
