Contemptible people among them had a strong craving for other food. - Numbers 11:4

One year and two months after they had departed Egypt, only three days after they had left the foot of Mt. Sinai with the evidence of God's presence continually manifest in a cloud by day and fire by night, a large number of Israelites began to complain about the "manna" that God had miraculously provided. With all the evidence of God's care around them, behind them, and before them, they still found something to complain about.
But are we really any different?
Even in the midst of God's work and presence, I have experienced "contemptible people" with a "strong craving for other food." We can be so easily dissatisfied with God's gifts, and we are often more focused on our own personal reward than His glory.
Let us not reject God's present provision for the taste of a glorified past. The fulfillment of His promises is only ever forward. As we pray, "Lord, give us this day, our daily bread," may we be ever mindful that His provision is exactly what we need.
Christianity may not explain everything, but it most certainly transforms everything. - Selwyn Hughes
