Yahweh sat enthroned at the flood; Yahweh sits enthroned, King forever. - Psalm 29:10

Life is full of tragedy. If you follow the news, then you daily read of devastation on a national, local, or personal level, somewhere. For most people, reactions to such news range from hopelessness to fear to anger to empathy. Sometimes it can all just be a bit overwhelming. Many even use these events to justify their position that God is at worst nonexistent or at best unworthy of our worship.
Yet, David reminds us in a simple sentence that God is not absent, He is enthroned, sovereign. He was over the flood that wiped mankind (except for one family) from the face of the earth. The implication being that if God was in charge when that occurred, He is certainly sovereign over this (whatever "this" happens to be).
We should not fear God's sovereignty, even though we may not grasp it, understand it, or always appreciate it. The fact is that without it, we are most certainly lost. Our only security is in His sovereignty.
We darken the cages of birds when we wish to teach them to sing. - Jean Paul Friedrich Richter
