On Us

All the people answered, "His blood be on us and on our children!" - Matthew 27:25

The words above were uttered by the angry manipulative mob that appeared in front of Jesus' trial at Pilate's court. Pilate washed his hands (literally and figuratively) of any responsibility for Jesus' death sentence, but the crowd was more than willing to accept whatever consequences might result from their complicity in the death of Jesus. Don't misunderstand, Pilate was just as guilty as they were, but neither was alone in their culpability.

We must understand that we also had a part in the death of Christ. He died for our sins in our place and our only hope lies in the fact that the desire of that angry mob was actually accomplished, that Christ's atoning blood was indeed on us.

By admitting their fault and identifying with the Savior, a person is saved by the shed blood of Christ. There is no other way. It begins with admitting it was your sin that made the shedding necessary.

The blood of Christ stands not simply for the sting of sin on God but the scourge of God on sin, not simply for God's sorrow over sin, but for God's wrath on sin. - P. T. Forsyth
