Even before there is a word on my tongue, behold, O Lord, You know it all. - Psalm 139:4

I truly admire those people whose words always seem to be measured and precise. I do not know many who actually fall into that category, but it just seems that when they speak, it is worth the time to listen. I, on the other hand (though it has improved with age), have sometimes been too quick to speak and allowed passion to supplant tact incurring damage that could have been avoided.
The words above suggest that there is One who knows what we will speak before it is even in our mind to speak it. From this we can gather that if we walk in the Spirit, then our speech will be guided by God and vocal blunders will be, more often than not, evaded.
The tongue can be a dangerous tool in the mouth of an undisciplined sinner, but an implement of wisdom in the mouth of a Spirit-controlled saint. I prefer option #2.
One of the first things which a physician says to his patient is, "Let me see your tongue." A spiritual advisor might often do the same. - Nehemiah Adams
