Let the righteous smite me in lovingkindness and reprove me; it is oil upon the head; let not my head refuse it, for still my prayer is against their evil deeds. - Psalm 141:5

There is something in the human psyche that rebels against correction. Some call it "pride," but it could also be insecurity. Whatever the reason for the inner rebellion, I have never known anyone who enjoyed being told that they were wrong. This may explain why men have such a hard time asking for directions!
The psalmist tells us that we should welcome the reproofs of the righteous. In fact, a rebuke from another believer may be considered an act of God's faithful, covenant love (CHESED or lovingkindness), a balm or medicine for one in need of treatment. Whom the Lord loves He chastens and His tool for chastening may be another brother or sister in Christ bringing God's truth to our error.
May we always be willing to take our medicine.
A fault, opportunely rebuked, is like a cure timely taken. - Arthur Capel
