Think Like Noah

... saying, "Where is the promise of His coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they have been since the beginning of creation." - 2 Peter 3:4

"Well, here we go again!"

Sound familiar? It should. I am sure that we have all said or at least thought it many times in our lives. Some things (and people) just never seem to change, right? Why must history repeat itself?

Perhaps one reason is that people are content to consider only their own personal histories as relevant. We think, yes, something might happen, but since it has not happened in my lifetime (or the lives of those I know), then it probably won't happen again. For example, you can be sure that Noah always experienced a rainstorm in a way that was different from his grandchildren, because that first one carried so much meaning and so many memories. As much as a rainbow bore the message of redemption, at least for Noah, rain surely bore a similar message of judgment.

History repeats itself for two reasons: 1) We forget the story that has already been told, and 2) We forget Who wrote it. The next time it rains, best to think like Noah.

Strike from mankind the principle of faith and men would have no more history than a flock of sheep. - Mark Beltaire
