Thirsty

I remember the days of old; I meditate on all you have done; I reflect on the work of your hands. I spread out my hands to You; I am like parched land before You. - Psalm 143:5-6

There is no more desolate place on earth than the desert of the parched soul.
I have endured the heat of a West Africa dry season, walked the Kenyan plateaus, and hiked in some Western U.S. scrub, but nothing compares with the struggle endured within a spiritual drought. Of course, such an experience is only magnified by the remembrance of what it means to be spiritually refreshed.
On the other hand, there is some benefit to a dry period. For instance, you will never be thirstier! Like the desert wanderer who only thinks of finding water, we become increasingly focused on returning to the Wellspring of our souls. Then, upon finding Him (most often in the words of His inspired Word), we freely drink, vowing never to leave His side again.
Until, of course, inevitably we do.
He that has satisfied his thirst turns his back on the well. - Baltasar Gracian
