When Vileness is Exalted

On every side the wicked prowl, as vileness is exalted among the children of man. - Psalm 12:8

I never cease to be amazed at what will capture the attention of the American public.

It is clear that we worship celebrity. Why else would we have ever had a popular show called "American Idol?" Why would we publish photos of a princess dying in an auto accident? Why would we be angered by the lack of photos of a celebrity couple's newborn baby? Moral character (as the Bible defines it) is clearly no longer deemed relevant by our culture and what is worthless is most often exalted.

Of course, this is not a new development, for things have always been this way. The only answer is the presence of Christ in an individual and Jesus' sure return and reign. At the same time, we must not complacently sit back and behave as if our efforts are futile. Our righteous choices and actions (on display within a context of grace and humility) can and will influence others for the King, if we will only let them.

Understanding always precedes commitment. - Thom Rainer
