A Prosperous Soul

Dear friend, I pray that you may prosper in every way and be in good health, just as your soul prospers. - 3 John 2

When we pray for our friends, what should we include in those prayers?

Usually, our prayers are for good health (or something similar). We might also pray for their prosperity or work. Sometimes we even pray for their family. In other words, we seem to most often focus on the "externals" (tangible, material things) and avoid the "internals" (things that are intangible and spiritual).

A good American riddle asks, "Which came first, the chicken or the egg?" So, which is more important, our internal or external health? Spiritual health is the foundation for all healthy living and though it may not be a "cure-all," if a person is spiritually healthy, they will have the strength to face any other issues that might come their way. With this in mind, maybe we should begin by praying for the "internals" in order that the "externals" might be manageable.

A "prosperous soul" might just be the thing we need the most.

If religion has done nothing for your temper, it has done nothing for your soul. - James B. Clayton
