Better Face To Face

Though I have many things to write to you, I don't want to do so with paper and ink. Instead, I hope to be with you and talk face to face so that our joy may be complete. - 2 John 12

One thing I have learned over the years is the importance of good communication. Many people make the mistake of assuming they have communicated (information, thoughts, feelings, emotions) with others when, in fact, they have not and unfortunately such assumptions can sometimes ruin or strain a relationship.

Many people use electronic forms because they are simple, available, and fast, but these methods may not be the best in every situation. While they may be practical, they usually do not give the writer time to reflect upon their words and like all written forms, they hide emotion. These methods should be restricted to the simple transfer of information (time for a meeting, details for a program, etc.).

Look at the words of John. He had a lot to say, but he knew that most of it should be said face to face. If you really want someone to know how you feel, then you should do the same.

Skill in the art of communication is crucial to a leader's success. He can accomplish nothing unless he can communicate it effectively. - Norman Allen
