Endure For His Glory

I wrote something to the church, but Diotrephes, who loves to have first place among them, does not receive us. - 3 John 9

As play on the infamous words of Abraham Lincoln, "You can please some of the people all of the time and all of the people some of the time, but you cannot please all of the people all of the time!"

In my 40 years as a minister of the gospel, I have seen a lot of opposition to my plans and ideas. Often, the opposition was necessary in order that, together, we might arrive at the best possible conclusion. There were (of course) those times when I was just flat wrong and not motivated (as I should have been) by God's eternal purposes. Then there were other times, when the opposition was evil and contrary to the will of God.

At times like these, a leader needs the grace of God in order to be able to persevere and endure, not for his own sake, but rather for the glory and purpose of God. Don't change direction simply because no one is heading the same way as you.

He that wrestles with us strengthens our nerves and sharpens our skill. - Edmund Burke
