Feelin' the Love?

This is how we know that we love God's children when we love God and obey His commands. - 1 John 5:2

I have a good, long-time friend who used to say (as I messed with him), "Feelin' the love." Well, he gave as good as he got and so I would often repeat this phrase back to him! We were and still are very good friends and some healthy ribbing was (and still is) a part of our relationship.

How about you? Are you "feelin' the love today?" One problem with feelings is that they pass. For example, sometimes I do not "feel" loved or in love, even by or with God. I also know that my life doesn't always reveal true love for Him. So, how can I know that God loves me? How can I show my love for Him even when I don't "feel" like it?

I can know God loves me simply due to the fact of His sacrificial, vicarious death on a Roman cross. Christ's obedience reveals His love for me. As for my love for Him? My obedience to His Word reveals my heart. Whenever I obey His commands, in spite of how I might feel, He knows that I love Him more than anything in this world.

Those most moved to tears by every word of a preacher are generally weak and a rascal when the feelings evaporate. - Sallust (Roman Historian)
