First, Listen!

Carefully consider the path for your feet, and all your ways will be established. - Proverbs 4:26

I used to have a bad habit. Okay, maybe more than one (and I still have some of them), but let's not go there today.

I sometimes speak before I think. Sometimes I even speak to think. I call this "thinking out loud," and no it is not the same as talking to yourself, which I have also been known to do. Of course, it is easy to see why these practices are not always wise and can cause misunderstandings and trouble.

The proverb above reminds us to think before we make a decision or take action; something I have actually improved on through the years (Thank you, Jesus!). I have even learned to pray before decisions, seek biblical counsel, and then ask God for His wisdom and the strength to remain obedient to His will. Sanctification is a wonderful thing!

Fact is, God's way is always the best way and the most secure path for life. All we have to do is shut up long enough to listen to Him first!

No man is so foolish, but he may sometimes give another good counsel, and no man so wise that he may not easily err if he takes no other counsel than his own. He that is taught only by himself has a fool for a master. - Ben Johnson
