For All Have Sinned

If we say, "We have not sinned," we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us. - 1 John 1:10

Most people that I have met will readily admit they are sinners. In fact, many are proud of it. I know, because they like to talk about it.

True followers of Christ are not like this. Of course, they are not sinless, but they do desire to sin less. When a true follower of Christ sins, they are convicted by the indwelling Holy Spirit and repent in order to renew their fellowship with the Father.  They know that they are sinner, but they desire to live as "saints."

On the other hand, if a person should happen to claim a sinless life, like the rich young ruler, the pharisees, or (believe it or not) a man I once pastored, their claim is false, for in boasting of perfection they call God a liar. God said that no one is righteous, not even one. This includes, by default, me and you.

You are a sinner. Admit it. Do your best to quit it, but don't brag about it. Christ Jesus died to free you from it. Receive His forgiveness and be freed.

Let us speak, though we show all our faults and weaknesses, for it is a sign of strength to be weak, to know it, and out with it, not in a set way and ostentatiously though, but incidentally and without premeditation. - Herman Melville
