Gut-Feeling

The one who trusts in himself is a fool, but one who walks in wisdom will be safe. - Proverbs 28:26

An axiom that I have heard most of my life goes like this: "Follow your heart," or, to put it another way, "Go with your gut." Sadly, such wisdom doesn't always lead to good decisions.

Why?

Simply because it is possible for our hearts to be deceived and, in turn, lie to us. True wisdom cannot be generated from within, but must be found without, with God in Christ, primarily within the Scriptures.

We should never be surprised when heartfelt, sincere decisions (either our own or those of others) lead to wrong ends, if those decisions are founded upon emotions, feelings, or sentiments emanating from any place other than a grasp of God's truth.

So, you can follow your heart or go with your gut, but only if it is His heart and His gut you follow.

The heart is forever inexperienced. - Henry David Thoreau
