His Victory, His Peace

This is the victory that has conquered the world: our faith. - 1 John 5:4

We live in a world at war. Though there have been years when our own nation has not been involved in an armed conflict, there has never been a time in my own life when every corner of the earth was at peace. In fact, the relatively new war with terrorism has virtually assured us (as Americans) that we will never know peace again.

Now, I am certainly no "dove," but I am convinced that true peace cannot be gained through guns or bombs. For that matter, it also cannot be achieved through diplomacy or politics. Only the return of Christ Himself will bring everlasting peace on earth.

What about personal peace? Can a person at least have that? When all is crumbling around me, can I remain at peace? Again, not without His victory. A person's trust in God in Christ Jesus translates into an understanding that His will is always best, that it always reveals His greatest glory, and that it guarantees their greatest happiness.

This is the victory that has conquered the world.
