How Do I Love Thee?

But whoever keeps His word, truly in him the love of God is perfected. This is how we know we are in Him.... - 1 John 2:5

"I love you, but ...."

But what? But, I have to hurt you. But, I won't go through life with you. But, I won't do what you ask? These are difficult words for anyone to hear and many have. It is unfortunate that anyone should ever feel the need to speak them or hear them, yet sometimes we say them to other people, and even to our Savior.

We all remember the old saying, "How do I love thee? Let me count the ways." How does God know that we love Him? How could He ever see it in a persistent disobedience?

Samuel (God's prophet) once told Solomon (God's anointed king) that obedience is even better than sacrifice. Perhaps we should all take a moment today and count the ways that we love God, then work on increasing the number.

There are three things in my life which I really love: God, my family, and football. The only problem is that once football season starts, I change the order around a bit. - Al Gallagher
