If We Claim His Life

I will not violate My covenant or change what My lips have said. - Psalm 89:34

Do you remember a time when agreements were sealed with a handshake and such "contracts" were considered as binding as anything a court might impose?
Well, neither do I, but the idea is one with which we are all familiar and enamored, having had it passed down from those who have gone before us. We can all appreciate the tone and feeling such integrity emotes and even in our current litigious society, the fact still remains that legal documents are only as good as the promised word of those who sign them. A person's "word" still matters.
This, my friends, is why God's truth and promises in His Word are so reliable. His covenants are binding, because He binds them and if we claim to know Him, shouldn't our commitments bear the same binding strength. If we truly have the mind of His Son (Jesus), if we are truly inhabited by His Holy Spirit, then should we not mirror His character when it comes to the promises, covenants, agreements, and vows we make?
If we claim His life, should we not also keep our word?
Things ain't what they used to be and never were. - Will Rogers
