Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life residing in him. - 1 John 3:15

The opposite of love is hate. They are competing actions. This is why I chuckle a little when people say, (and yes, I have said it) "I am in a love-hate relationship with (whatever)." You can supply the person, job, country, situation, etc., but honestly it is just not possible to love a person and hate them at the same time. On the other hand, you can hate what they do. For instance, we should hate sin, but we cannot hate a person and love them simultaneously.
To hate is to murder. Jesus said it first and John affirmed it. This is why I can honestly and affirmatively say that I do hate my sin. I want to murder it, to see it eradicated forever, but then again, if I hate it, why do I keep doing it? Perhaps, if I am honest with myself, it is because I sometimes love it, too.
It is simple really. The more one loves God, the more they will hate their sin and the less they will hate others.
While I believe that Jesus is the way to God, it makes no sense to hate people who disagree. - Jerry B. Jenkins
