Making the Most of Your Moments

My heart grew hot within me; as I mused, a fire burned. I spoke with my tongue: "Yahweh, reveal to me the end of my life and the number of my days. Let me know how short-lived I am." - Psalm 39:3-4

"Tell me, Doc. How much time do I have?"

If not for the harsh reality that some must daily face due to a life-consuming illness, it might be easy to make light of such a melodramatic question. We have heard it repeated in multiple dramatic venues and it has even (perhaps) lost its impact; unless, of course, we are the one asking it.

How much time do we have? Doctors may estimate it, but truly only the Lord knows. David voiced such a question to the Almighty and there is a lesson (or two) for us all in the asking. As a lover of God, David fairly smoldered with a fiery passion to glorify His Creator with the life he knew he had been given. The king of Israel begged to be constantly reminded of the fleeting nature of life in order that he might make the most of his days.

I, like many, have entered the age of exams, tests, and reports with pending results. Perhaps you have already been in such a place for a while. Whatever our stage in life, whatever we face, I pray that we all will have the grace to make the most of our moments while making the most of Him.

Every man dies. Not every man really lives. - William Wallace
