On My Own?

Then would I speak and not fear Him. but that is not the case; I am on my own. - Job 9:35

When difficulties come (and they always do), to whom do you run for help?

Most Christ-followers would say, "God," but what if you feel (like Job) as if He is the One working against you? Is it possible that you have indeed sinned against God? While your relationship with God in Christ can never be broken, it is certainly possible to damage the friendship. Maybe you should ask yourself, "Do I have any sin I need to confess?" If so, confess it! Be honest with God about His righteous standard, not some watered-down version of your own making. Renew the friendship.

If the problem isn't sin, then maybe God has allowed this difficulty in your life for another reason. Fact is, the Christ-follower is never alone. The Spirit who lives within us will never depart. Christ is your Savior. If the friendship with God is good, your difficulties should only make you stronger. As a true friend, God only wants your best, and will not settle for less. In Christ, you will never be "on your own."

A mere friend will agree with you, but a real friend will argue. - Russian Proverb
