... and He has kept, with eternal chains in darkness for the judgment of the great day, angels who did not keep their own position but deserted their proper dwelling. - Jude 6

Here is another example from Jude that the Holy Spirit used to illustrate God's judgment and punishment of willful sin.
In this instance, we learn that the angels, created by God, were commanded to do His will, but some "deserted their proper dwelling and did not keep their own position." Given a choice, some of God's created angels chose wrongly.
Why does this matter to us, God's highest creation?
If these angels (God's unique creation) were not protected when they rebelled against His supreme authority, then why would anyone think that they would be protected from punishment if found doing the same? God's grace is absolutely and certainly sufficient, but we must never sinfully and willfully presume upon it. While the consequences of a Christ-follower's disobedience may not be eternal, they can still be very painful.
God does not suffer presumption in anyone but Himself. - Herodotus
