Send It?

I have many things to write you, but I don't want to write to you with pen and ink. - 3 John 13

In this verse, John repeats a statement that he had made in his second letter. Obviously, communication was important to the apostle and John preferred a personal visit to a personal letter. No doubt, he preferred some communication over none at all.

In this present "information age" there is no excuse for a lack of communication. We have laptops, smart phones, Messenger, Skype, Twitter, Instagram, email, blogs, etc. in order to make a connection. Of course, while it can be beneficial, all this technology also makes it possible for a person to go on offensive public rants. It takes spiritual wisdom to use such tools properly.

Still, with all these forms of communication, why not stay in touch? If someone writes you, it is because they want to communicate with you. Why not take the time to return the favor with a word or two? Just be sure that what you write actually "communicates," before you hit send!

Some texts deserve a reply. Some deserve silence. Learn the difference. - Unknown
