Some Needed Harmony

How good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in harmony! - Psalm 133:1

It seems, at least within my particular "flavor" of Christianity, that conflict is often preferred instead of peace. Some might even suggest that our disharmony is a distraction and barrier to growth. Perhaps, but even if conflict should not be pursued, it also should not be avoided for the sake of a compromised truth or a false peace.

The Body of Christ (in its local expression, i.e., churches) has always experienced some sort of internal conflict and to suggest the possibility that it could ever be different (prior to Christ's return) is just empty romanticism. On the other hand, harmony should still be sought, even if we have to strike a few undesirable chords to get there.

A friend once posted that while we often talk at each other in the church, we need to be talking to one another. I agree. How easy it is to express our thoughts about another person online but never engage them in conversation or debate. While we will most certainly (at times) disagree, we must also certainly dwell together and seek to strike a clear note.

The world does not need noise, but rather the hard-fought harmony that the noise produces.

Harmony makes small things grow, lack of it makes great things decay. - Sallust
