The Pilgrim's Home

Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. - 1 John 2:15

My "world" has changed dramatically over the past 40+ years: over 30 moves; English to multiple languages; various modes of transportation (including a 4-by-4 and the family van); four seasons (including a lot of snow), then only two (wet/dry); paved roads in suburbia to mostly dirt in the African bush; apples and peaches to mangoes and papayas; a lot of change and through it all, confidence in self exchanged for a greater confidence in the Lord.

Yet, in all these changes I am assured that Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. I have also come to realize that it is possible to live the "pilgrim" life anywhere on earth. It is just seems easier when you are in another culture. Why? Because living as a "pilgrim" (always on a journey) requires you to "let go of this in order to reach that.

Home for the pilgrim is never where you "are," but rather where you will ultimately "be."

One of our deepest needs is to be at home. - Timothy Radcliffe
