Truth Alone Wins

I have not written to you because you don't know the truth, but because you do know it, and because no lie comes from the truth. - 1 John 2:21

John wrote this letter to people who knew "the truth" (obviously, something absolute that could be "known"). In effect, John said that a defining characteristic of believers is that they know "the truth" and bear "the truth," because they have received "the truth" in the Person of Jesus Christ. He is Truth.

Lies and lying have no place in the Body of Christ, but they are the number one tool of our enemy. As a missionary, I was surrounded by people and people groups whose entire cultures were based upon a lie. In fact, within some of these cultures, lying was an honored activity. The greatest liars often became the most venerated leaders. We, here in the West, would never make that mistake!

Living in a world that is under the temporary influence of the "Father of Lies," the only answer that I can see is for people of God's truth to speak His truth as a means for the Spirit of truth to communicate Christ's sacrificial love for the world to the world. Our spiritual battle is not about power, God is omnipotent. Truth alone wins.

Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices with the truth. - Apostle Paul (1 Cor. 13:4)
