... the Spirit, the water, and the blood — and these three are in agreement. - 1 John 5:8

When I was a little boy, my brother and I would sometimes get caught lying because our stories didn't agree. Since we weren't of one mind, we didn't think together and since we didn't think together, we weren't believable. That is the problem with lying, remembering which lie you just told, and keeping your stories straight. It is better to just tell the truth. Right?
John said that Jesus is the Son of God and then said that this is true because of three witnesses: the Spirit, the water, and the blood. Jesus, being conceived by the Spirit (and living evidence of His presence), shed His blood and died on a Roman cross; two of the three witnesses that John claimed. The third (water) is a picture of His eternal life that is clearly seen in and through His resurrection.
All these things, together, are in agreement and state (as historical fact) that Jesus was and is God in the flesh, and that is the undeniable, irrefutable truth.
A half-truth is usually less than half of that. - Bern Williams
