What Are We Fighting For?

Dear friends, although I was eager to write you about our common salvation, I found it necessary to write and exhort you to contend for the faith that was delivered to the saints once for all. - Jude 3

What are you fighting for?

This is a question that needs to be asked all around the world and, perhaps more than ever, in our own country. Some fight for power, others for money. Some even fight for their liberty from tyranny. Many seem to fight just because they're angry at a perceived injustice. Is there anything for which a Christian should "fight?"

Jude wrote that we should "contend for the faith." This is not an order from God to take up arms in a physical struggle, but instead a command to take up biblical truth in a spiritual battle against the lies of this world. Worldviews and philosophies war against God's teachings, some overtly, but the most dangerous are those that present minor deviations resulting in major departures.

In this, yes, we desperately need to fight.

It doesn't take a hero to order men into battle. It takes a hero to be one of those men who goes into battle. - Norman Schwarzkopf
