When Shaken

But you, dear friends, building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in the love of God, expecting the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ for eternal life. - Jude 20-21

Have you ever been in an earthquake? I have experienced two small ones in New York and New Jersey, but it was more "cool" than scary. Of course, this experience can be life-altering for many around the world and there is nothing "cool" about it.

What do you do when your life is "shaken?" Jude reminds us to build ourselves up in our most holy faith and then gives us three practices to make sure that happens: praying, keeping, and expecting. Pray in the Holy Spirit and your life will have direction. Keep yourself in the love of God and you will survive failure. Expect the mercy of the Lord and you will not be disabled by doubt.

In days of uncertainty, when things seem "shakable," it is good to have an anchor (a sure foundation). Build your life on these things and you will not only survive but most likely even thrive.

When uncertainty keeps you up at night, then close your eyes and think of something that is certain, God’s love. - Unknown
