When To Speak

When there are many words, sin is unavoidable, but the one who controls his lips is wise. - Proverbs 10:19

Typically, in American society, we value or esteem those who don't talk too much. Even if a person lacks great intellect, we may consider him to be intelligent simply because of his silence. Of course, many of us are familiar with the old adage (attributed to Mark Twain) that goes like this:

“It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt”

Yet don't some situations require us to speak up? For example, how about those situations that involve an injustice or wrong committed against another? What about all the evil we see being condoned as freedom in our world today?

The key is to know when to speak and when to remain silent and, of course, this is where God's wisdom is so necessary, and apart from the wisdom of God, you just can't know.

Silence is golden but duct tape is silver. - Anonymous
