Why Weep?

My eyes pour out streams of tears because people do not follow Your instruction. - Psalm 119:136

What makes you cry?

Scraped knee? Bruised ego? Your favorite team losing? A particularly moving worship song or service? A movie? (I remember hearing that some men who watched Toy Story 3 cried like a little girl at a Taylor Swift concert)?

I cry (at times), but I wonder, "When was the last time any of us wept over the fact that God's instruction was being ignored?" Could it be that God has not blessed His church because He has not seen a sense of brokenness among His children? Because we do not weep for those things that break His heart?

My grandfather, who died in 1993, once said that he didn't think it was possible to truly repent without tears. I think that if we are truly broken, then we must truly weep, don't you?

A wound that goes unacknowledged and unwept is a wound that cannot heal. - John Eldredge
