Yore Cheatin' Heart

... because if our hearts condemn us, God is greater than our hearts and knows all things. - 1 John 3:20

ree

Jeremiah once said that the heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked, then he asked (rhetorically), "Who can know it?" Certainly, or so it would seem, a person can know their own heart! I mean, how many times have you heard someone say (or said yourself) in the context of justifying an action, "I think I know my own heart!"

But do we? Really?

Your heart, my heart, it is sad to say, is a liar. Our hearts may convince us that we are right even when we are dead wrong and they often render doubt where truth is irrefutable. While it is good practice to "listen" to your heart, you must also check it against God's Word. We must measure every decision against His unwavering truth.

God is "greater than our hearts and knows all things." So, even when the truth just doesn't feel right, we must do what He says.

The battleline between good and evil runs through the heart of every man. - Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn
